Family and friends gather to farewell Coolum murder victims

A TRUST has been set up to support the 12-year-old daughter of a Coolum couple killed in horrific circumstances on August 21.

It aims to fund counselling assistance, education and living expenses for Alex Young Dekens, whose parents David Young and Louise Dekens were killed by David's brother Anthony, later shot dead by police.

Spokesman Martin Penay said the charitable trust's first priority was to fund counselling to help Alex come to terms with what she witnessed.

It also would help provide for her living expenses and her education.

"Immediate friends and family have already contributed,'' Mr Penay said.

"But we have a long way to go to ensure she has funds available equivalent to what her father would have provided.''

The funeral service for David and Louise will be held at the Gregson and Weight Chapel in Nambour on Monday from 10am.

The funeral for Anthony Young, who is believed to have been in a psychotic state when he attacked the couple, was held on Thursday.

Mr Penay said the trust aimed to play a strengthening role for the devastated families.

He said he had been a friend of the couple for the past seven years and had very much experienced David's generosity on many occasions.

Mr Penay said David had sought his counsel as a mentor and he was determined to do what he could to help his friend's daughter.

The trust has been set up to ensure its income is tax free. It was hoped to also gain tax deductibility status for public contributions.

Guests at Monday's funeral service will be handed brochures outlining how they can help, with initial fundraising to run for the next four weeks.

Details can be found at www.alexyoungdekens trust.org.

Donations to the Alex Young Dekens Trust can be sent to the Westpac account BSB: 034185; account: 156954.
