Two divisions officially declared in council election

TWO of the region's ten council divisions were declared by the Electoral Commission of Queensland on Friday.

Division one councillor James Hansen was declared winner as well as division five councillor Rolf Light.

Both were the incumbents in their division.

Cr Hansen was never in doubt of taking out his seat, attracting a massive 88% of the votes in the division.

Cr Light was also barely challenged, securing 52% of the votes, well ahead of his nearest challenger Sue Brooks who had 31% of the votes.

The ECQ will officially declare a division only when it is statistical impossibility for anyone else to win.

In the mayoral race, division three councillor Chris Loft is currently about 1400 votes ahead of incumbent Gerard O'Connell.

The ECQ is currently distributing preferences in the mayoral race.
