Two injured as truck hits overpass

HIGHWAY traffic was disrupted for several hours yesterday after a truck crashed into an overpass bridge just south of Maryborough.

The truck driver and a passenger were taken by ambulance to hospital with minor injuries.

Sergeant Pat Fleming said the Bruce Highway was completely blocked between 12.10pm and 2.20pm.

Traffic was diverted around the crash site via Gympie Road at Tinana during those couple of hours.

The truck was owned by a Buderim business and was being driven by a 23-year-old male employee.

He was driving south along the highway when he somehow lost control and crashed into the base of an overpass.

Fire crews arrived before the ambulance and provided first aid for the occupants.

The driver submitted to a roadside breath test at the scene, which returned a negative result.

He and his male passenger were taken to Maryborough Hospital for observation.

The 12-tonne truck was badly damaged and was towed away about 2pm. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
