Men were armed with machete and toy gun, threatening others

POLICE officers and armed detectives surrounded a set of units in Elphinstone St yesterday afternoon after reports of two armed men.

At 5.20pm police responded to a call from the men inside the Berserker residence who were making threats towards a third person who was not present at the property.

At first police were led to believe the two men were armed with a firearm but it was later discovered they were armed with a machete and a toy gun.

District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant Tom Nelson said the two men may have been affected by alcohol.

"They called the police saying they had a firearm and made threats to a third person who was not at the residence," Snr Sgt Nelson said.

"No firearms were found but police did find a toy firearm and a machete. The dog squad was also called in to assist police."

The two men were arrested at the scene and taken into custody for questioning.

A witness said he returned home to flashing lights and police cars.

"I saw police everywhere and they told us to come back in half an hour," the witness said.

"One guy left in the paddy wagon and the other left in a police car. The dog sqaud were in there for about 20 minutes."

No one was harmed during the incident.
