Exploding fridge sparks unit fire
AN EXPLODING fridge sparked a fire that destroyed a couple’s home at a Hervey Bay retirement village on Wednesday morning.
Rose Coy and Mick Pye ran from their unit at Golden Shores in Pialba after smoke began pouring out of their refrigerator about 9am.
“The smoke was seeping out of the doors of the fridge and when Mike opened it to see what was causing the smoke it literally exploded into flames,” Rose said.
Firefighters arrived quickly but were unable to save the two-bedroom demountable home or anything inside it.
