United's youngest Warriors love to play

STARS: It will not be the final score that matters most to United Warriors' youth girls coach Taylor Samuels tonight.

She and Olivia Whatmann have shared coaching duties of the young Warriors in the Fraser Coast Youth Girls competition, but while they are about to play a grand final against Bayside Strikers, the season has not been driven by the scoreboard.

For Samuels, it has been all about the chance to play football and develop players.

"They're keen, that's for sure,” Samuels said.

"We probably didn't know what we were getting ourselves into at the start but it's been such a great year.”

Samuels has previously helped coach at U6 level and in other sports but was blown away by how much the players had developed.

"The best part is probably when you set up a drill and you see them work together and talking each other through it,” Samuels said. "It's just an awesome feeling knowing you've been part of something like a players' development.

"At the end of the day, I'm sure they'll all put in the effort.”

Samuels and Whatmann have played for the Warriors for years. They played in the FCL Division 1 Ladies team this season, and have previously played for United in the Wide Bay League.

The youth competition has been geared towards the development of young players in the hope of creating stable, older-age competitions in future and Samuels said she could not wait to see how it developed.

Kick-off is at 5pm.
