BOWLS: Urangan and Burgowan fight for the silverware

Around the Rinks with Tony the Bulldog

THE battle for the Uranburg Cup took place last week at Urangan as old rivals Urangan Bowls Club and Burgowan Bowls Club fought for the silverware.

The game was played in good spirit with all the competitors giving a good account of themselves.

There was a distinct home- ground advantage between the two sides as the Urangan players appeared to read the green better than the Burgowan players.

At the end of the day Urangan were the clear victors and rightfully claimed the cup. Congratulations to all people involved.

"The Club for Everyone" (Pialba Bowls Club) will hold a silly season bowls game on December 30.

This event is open to all people and is designed to be for fun. The fun comes from the method used in constructing the teams.

The process is designed to use single entries combined with a random draw process to create teams of three.

This type of format differs from the traditional construction of team play where teams of three select themselves. Players being drawn randomly to compile teams makes for a more social type of play.

The games will start at 10am with a cost of $15. Lunch is also available. People are more than welcome to come along and play or just watch.

For more details you can contact the club on 4128 1432.

"The Family Club" (Burrum Heads Bowls Club) advises they will be open every day during the holiday period apart from Christmas Day.

"The Friendly Club" (Hervey Bay Bowls Club) will be playing the men's Monday afternoon triples as normal on December 28.

Visitors to the area who are an affiliated member of another bowling club are more than welcome.

Names in by 10am, for further information you can contact the club on 4128 1093

While I am relatively new in this position I have already met some wonderful people from the bowling community.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who have been involved in supplying the information for the clubs profiles.

Finally, I would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
