Hoons tear up ground around war memorial in Pialba

JUST two weeks out from the most important date on veterans' calendars, vandals have taken to Freedom Park in a car and done donuts around a key war monument.

The park forms the centrepiece of Hervey Bay's Anzac Day event.

A builderdiscovered tyre tracks gouged into the grass on Tuesday morning.

Hervey Bay RSL Sub Branch president John Kelsey struggled to comprehend the thoughtless attack.

"It's damage of a national monument, not respecting our dead…," Mr Kelsey said.

Mr Kelsey said it would be reported and promised a review of CCTV footage.
