HERVEY Bay's annual Pier to Pub event has been hailed a success by Fraser Coast councillor Darren Everard, who said about 220 people took part in the event.

Cr Everard said about 70% of the competitors who took part in the Pier to Pub swimming event came from outside the region, giving the Fraser Coast an economic boost.

"They made the trip from all over Australia," he said.

Cr Everard said he was hoping to take part in the event next year after organising duties prevented him from taking part this year.

"But I said the same thing last year," he said.
