Visitors love our sun, sand

BUSINESS is reportedly booming for several Fraser Coast motels and hotels, with the warmer weather bringing visitors to the region in their droves.

Hervey Bay businesses have been making the most of the boom in visitor numbers over the school holidays, booking in large numbers of day trips with local tourism operators.International guests were also flocking to the region according to Shelly Beach Motel co-owner Debra Jacklin, who said she had noticed a dramatic increase in European guests over the past few weeks.

"We've noticed a big increase in bookings in comparison to last year," Ms Jacklin said.

"There has also been a massive increase in the number of people booking day trips to Fraser Island and whale watching trips.

"Ms Jacklin said bookings for the rest of the holidays were also good, with the motel currently at about 75% occupancy.

"We were completely booked out over the weekend as well," she said.

Fraser Coast Tourism general manager Pip Close said that while it was too early to determine visitor numbers, bookings were looking quite positive.
