Wagner not happy with Labor over Adani mine

A TOOWOOMBA businessman has slammed both the Queensland Labor Government and Federal Labor opposition for their handling of Adani's Carmichael Coal Mine.

In the lead up to last year's state election during intense anti-Adani protests, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said because of a personal conflict of interest the State Government would veto a Federal Government loan to the Indian company to build a railway.

Now Federal Labor leader Bill Shorten has raised concerns about the mine, as Adani becomes an issue in a by-election for the inner-city Melbourne seat of Batman.

Wagner Holding Company's John Wagner said Labor's treatment of Adani was "absolutely disgraceful".

"They've put uncertainty into the international investor and finance community," he said.

Mr Wagner does have a vested interest in the project, with his company recently awarded the contract to build an airstrip at the site of the central Queensland mine.

"If they had been supportive of this project then Wagners would have a lot more people employed on the project than we currently have," he said.

"It not only impacts us, it impacts everyone in central and North Queensland."
