Wait almost over for aquathon

THE HERVEY Bay Triathlon Club is counting down the days until their next event after a bit of a break over the holiday season.

The club will host an aquathon on January 31, starting at Ron Beaton Park.

The club holds aquathons during the warmer months, cutting out the bike leg.

While several of the regular competitors will head to Goondiwindi to compete in a triathlon, organiser Ron Morgan said there would still be plenty of competitors who would be looking forward to competing in Hervey Bay again.

There will be 15 Fraser Coast competitors heading to Goondiwindi to compete in the Hell of the West triathlon.

The juniors competition will start at 6.50am, while the seniors event will kick off at 7.40am.

The distances for the senior competitors will include a 3km run, 800m swim and another 3km run. The intermediate competitors will do half that distance.

The Wide Bay triathlon team, which will head to Redcliffe for the state titles next month, are also eagerly anticipating the aquathon.

It will be the final chance for the squad to take part in a competition before the state titles and Morgan said they were definitely looking forward to it.
