Wallaroos out to defend Maryborough Hockey title

WALLAROOS are not about to let their newly-won silverware go.

Granville won the Maryborough District Hockey Association Division 1 Men's title for 17-straight seasons, but the blue and white-clad club are not about to let their closest rivals win it back.

Wallaroos captain Mitch Kersnovske said his side had trained well throughout the off-season, and despite a few changes to the lineup should be the primary contender.

"A couple of Year 12 guys who were an integral part of the team last year have moved to Brisbane for university but we've got a few good guys who have come through the club,” Kersnovske said. "We definitely won't be letting go of (the Div 1 premiership) any time soon.”

Wallaroos will face Maryborough Brothers at 4.50pm today with Granville to play Colts at 7.20pm.

The women's competition started yesterday as Granville took on Uniteds.

Wallaroos play Tinana at 6.10pm tonight.

The MDHA season will officially begin with a march past at 8.30am, before games for under-6s through to U14s start at 9.10am.
