Wal chosen as finalist in Country Category Top 30.
WAL Neilsen is starting to make it to the top.
His song, Cold as Dry Ice, has made him a finalist in the Top 30 Australian Songwriting Contest.
Mungar's own country music star said he was one of thousands across the nation to submit self-written pieces.
And now his song has been chosen as a finalist for the Country Category Top 30.
Wal said the news, which came last week after a six-month wait, was a "definite confidence boost".
He will fly to Sydney next month to attend the competition's awards night where he'll mingle with recording executives and other artists.
"It will be the first commercial flight from Hervey Bay to Sydney I'll have flown on," he said with a laugh.
"But I want to make the Wide Bay proud."
The 2014 Voice of Urban winner said the song Cold as Dry Ice was a good one.
"It has got a really good story line and a strong melody which is why I chose it from my album, Night Rider, to submit," he said.
But the good news has not stopped there.
His album's lead track, Night Rider, and video clip will be broadcast by the Country Music Channel across the nation by the end of this month.
While Wal wouldn't say no to a pursuit of his passion overseas in the United States of America market, he said he was content to keep playing gigs in the Fraser Coast.
The regular act at Hoolihans Restaurant and Bar has his upcoming performances listed on his personal website.
