Wanted over armed robbery

POLICE have released a comfit image of a man wanted over the armed robbery of a Hervey Bay cafe.

The man is alleged to have entered the cafe, on the corner of the Esplanade and Zephyr Street, Scarness, about 4.40pm on Monday.

He took off with a large sum of cash from the till after using a syringe to threaten the male attendant.

Police said that when the man entered the café, he asked for a drink.

But when the attendant returned to the counter with the drink the man showed the syringe and demanded money.

He then fled the store with the daily takings from the till.

The shop attendant, who was alone at the time, was not injured during the incident.

The offender is described as Aboriginal in appearance, approximately 180 centimetres tall and with a slim build.

He was wearing a red baseball cap with yellow colouring on the front, a faded black t-shirt, dark coloured cargo-style pants and black thongs.

He had short black hair and a small amount of facial hair.
