SOME Hollywood actors are used to undergoing extreme physical transformations when taking on demanding film roles.

In 2004, actor Christian Bale shed 28kg to play the lead in the film, The Machinist. He then regained 49kg in six months to play Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins.

Warren Jones, of One Mile, has undergone the same dramatic physical changes - only it wasn't for a Hollywood film role. It was to save his life.

When he was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2010, the health scare prompted the 37-year-old to search online for ways to fight off his condition.

The answer he found was that weight loss could help improve his blood sugar numbers.

"I was initially overweight at 98kg and had a lot of body fat, so I began a rigorous program of daily cardio to lose the weight," he said.

"I worked on my own for about six months and lost a lot of weight, slimming down to about 78kg."

But what Mr Jones didn't realise was that workout routine was burning too much muscle mass.

He said it had left him feeling weaker, with ongoing fatigue and on some days struggling to get off the sofa.

"I knew at that point that I had taken it a step too far," he said. "I wasn't happy with how I looked and decided to gain the weight back, with the help of a professional trainer this time."

Training out of Jetts Gym in Booval, Mr Jones said he had put back 12kg and was feeling better than ever.

His personal trainer Jason Gent said he had been working with Mr Jones since January, building muscle through weight training.

"He's had massive muscle growth and we've cleaned up his diet to put him well on his way to achieving his goal of gaining lean mass," he said.

Mr Jones said he had a goal weight of 100kg and was eager to continue working out towards a healthier lifestyle.
