Warwick single mum juggles study, work, family

STUDYING, working and being a single mum is no walk in the park.

Just ask Trudy Moore.

The Warwick single mum of three has spent the past 12 months juggling study at TAFE with part-time work and motherhood.

When Trudy decided early last year that she wanted to do something different with her life and make a difference for others, she wasn't sure where to start.

After scrolling through career sites, she settled on studying a Certificate III in Community Services.

"I sat there and thought can I really do that," she said.

"I just thought I'd take a jump and just see if I can.

"The worst case scenario is that it won't work."

It's taken plenty of management and discipline to fit study into Trudy's busy life and around her three children - aged five, 17 and 19.

Trudy manages to fit six to 12 hour study in each week, making sure to keep her weekends spare for family time.

"I'm fairly motivated - you've got to want it," she said.

"For the first time in my life I've been ambitious."

She's also fit volunteer work in, helping out with the Community Network of Warwick.

Now she's completed her Certificate III, Trudy has her eyes on her next big goal - a diploma in counselling.

The diploma will take eight years of part time study.

"It'll open more doors for me so I can be a social worker," she said.

It's a love of people that has been a driving force in motivating Trudy, something she sees as the highlight of her experience.

"I get so excited about people, I've met so many amazing people," she said.

As she looks to the future, the busy single mum has no regrets.

"It's hard at times because you're doing it all, you have to be the mum and dad," she said.

"It's made a big difference doing something for myself."
