Sea World tells boaties to watch out for the whales
CLOSE calls between whales and recreational boaties along the Queensland coastline have prompted a warning from Sea World's team of marine scientists.
Sea World director of marine sciences Trevor Long said the giant humpback whales could become disoriented and distressed if boats followed too closely or if there were multiple vessels around.
"It is extremely important to keep at least 100m away from these mammals and only approach them from the direction in which they are travelling," he said.
Up to 17,000 humpback whales will migrate past the Fraser Coast by November.
