Wests have chance to seal third against Brothers
WESTS Panthers missed a chance for third spot on the BRL ladder after a surprise loss to an undermanned Hervey Bay Seagulls.
The third-placed side was felled by a Seagulls outfit steered expertly by Chris Robinson, but the Panthers can make amends this weekend.
They face ladder-leaders Past Brothers at Salter Oval on Sunday, but without captain Josh Tanner.
Wests forward Corey Tanner said Josh Tanner was on duty with CQ Capras in the Intrust Super Cup.
"He (Josh) will come back just before our finals start," he said. "We have picked up another player named Samuel Herbert from Gladstone who has slotted in to the team really well at hooker and was one our best on the weekend."
A win could further cement the Panthers' position on the BRL ladder, but would also bring Seagulls and Brothers level if Hervey Bay beat Easts Magpies at Stafford Park.
It would also make the August 2 match between Seagulls and Brothers a battle for the minor premiership.
Hervey Bay are focused only on this Saturday's game, however, with a full day of fixtures set to make the Dale Hopgood Memorial Day one to remember.
