Take the kids to wet a line on the Coast these holidays

PARENTS on the Fraser Coast are being encouraged to make the most of the remaining school holidays and take their kids fishing to promote an outdoor lifestyle.

With warm weather, safe beaches and biting fish on the Fraser Coast, getting children outside and wetting a line is recommended.

Freedom Fishing Supplies staffer and expert Amanda Drury said the cheap hobby could have a positive impact on people's lifestyle.

"It's great to get children outside in this lucky part of the world," she said.

Amanda hinted where you and your family will be able to find a great catch.

"Poona is a really great location, not only is it really beautiful but it fishes well and is safe," she said.

In Hervey Bay, Gatakers Bay and the old-favourite Urangan Pier were mentioned as good fishing spots.

"It's good because you don't know what you're going to catch off the pier." she said.

The region's peak tourism body Fraser Coast Opportunities is hoping to increase the Queensland market share of fishing visitors by 8% by 2020, equating to a visitor expenditure value of over$107 million.
