WetSide cans light show

RAIN, hail or shine, people love going to WetSide.

That is the message Wide Bay Water communications manager Christina Maynes says she is hearing loud and clear after Friday’s light show at WetSide was cancelled because of wet weather.

Dozens of people arrived at WetSide on Friday night for the light show, unaware that it had been cancelled because of the rainy conditions.

“We apologise that some people were disappointed by the show cancellation,” she said.

“Wet weather caused the closure of WetSide on Friday afternoon and consequently the light show that evening.”

Ms Maynes said WetSide staff usually decide if the park needs to be closed because of wet weather or if there is lightning around.

“If this should happen in the future, we’ll seek other means to publicise the cancellation more widely,” she said.

“One such means would be to check www.wetside.com.au as a precaution before coming down.”

Ms Maynes said the park was sometimes closed during normal operating hours if the weather was poor.

Saturday’s scheduled light show went off without a hitch, with more than 100 people enjoying the show.

Ms Maynes said Wide Bay Water would continue to hold the light shows every Friday and Saturday night, weather permitting, half an hour after sunset.

She said the show provided another dimension to Hervey Bay’s tourism and recreation market.
