"Let's hope it means real jobs for locals."

This was the reaction from one of our Chronicle readers after plans for the new cinema were revealed on Thursday.

Preliminary development plans for a $60 million cineplex along Bay Dr, complete with shopping outlets, have been recently unveiled by the Fraser Coast Regional Council.

Damien Saint likes the cinema's we have at the moment and wouldn't pay more to see a movie if prices go up at the new complex.

"I will not be keen to pay $30.00 for a movie a drink and a packet of chips, the choc top will be definitely out of the budget," he said.

Theresa Neilsen would like to see something like this or a shopping centre in Maryborough.

"If we want decent shopping we are expected to travel at least an hours drive.. everything is always happening in Hervey Bay.. no consideration for people who live west of Maryborough," she said.

Kristy Burckhardt loves the idea of the new complex.

"A stand alone cinema upstairs with a trendy cafe open late, restaurant and a games place like timezone downstairs would be such a buzzing little hub, particularly at night time," she said.

Chronicle reader Allan Russell believes we just need a better cinema complex full stop.

Zjena Jakab is hoping it means real jobs for locals.

Julianne Brown thinks we need a cinema with much lower prices like the cineplex in Brisbane.

Ben Adsett thinks it is a waste of money.

Angela McGrath would like to see a gold class cinema come to the Bay.
