What is our best job?

DONNING an elegant, old fashioned frock and chatting merrily to market visitors, Judy Anderson looks like she fell from the pages of a historical drama.

The Maryborough woman lovingly doubles as both Mary Heritage and the town crier when the usual personalities Ken Ashford and Carmel Murdoch are absent.

In 2005, when the World Town Crier Championships came to Maryborough, another Mary was needed and talented Judy came to the rescue.

"It's not often you can get a job where you can dress up, wander around, talk to people and enjoy yourself," she said.

The characters are well known in the heritage city and Judy said their purpose wasn't only to fire the famous cannon but to promote Maryborough to the world.

"To let people know what a beautiful place we have here, because it's bypassed quite a lot by people wanting to go to Hervey Bay to see the whales," she said.

"I think it's nice to encourage people to come here and see our wonderful buildings and the nice people," Ms Anderson said.

Careers like this are available in our region, and who better to do them than local people with local knowledge?

Advertising online can be effective, but more often it becomes a waste of time as your inbox is filled with applications from inadequate candidates who are just time wasters.

"Jobs" on our website is the only true destination for local job seekers and advertisers.

"We can offer our customers a range of multi-media packages and digital only solutions, starting from $100 for a digital-only listing right through to a customised targeted solution for a larger customer," said classifieds sales and product director Gemma Visentin.

"We can combine the power of our newspapers and online."

Our website also features the latest jobs news and what's happening in the employment sector.
