What's on: sounds of pipes for RiverFest

HUGH McBroom will lead the Hervey Bay RSL Pipe Band in their three performances at the RiverFest on Saturday.

The group's new pipe major has been with the band for a few years, but has moved to this leading role just recently.

"We have some traditional and toe-tapping numbers prepared," he said. "The band is really excited to be there."

The accomplished musician loves to share his knowledge, and offers free lessons on Mondays at Yarrilee State School, and aspiring pipe players of all ages are welcome.

"It's an opportunity to learn for free. Generally, the pipes take a few years to learn to play." Mr McBroom is part of a few bands on the Fraser Coast, and in the next month, will participate in national competition. To enquire about lessons, call Mr McBroom on 0427412953.
