Whiting are ready for keen anglers in Toogoom
FREEDOM FISHING SUPPLIES
IT IS that time of year again when there isn't a crab, fish or prawn safe from the eager angler and their Christmas dinner.
And it is the busiest time of year on the water so you may want to head to the boat ramp early to avoid the line-ups.
But remember, safety first. Let's take a look at the report.
Tin Can Bay has been reporting good quality summer whiting and flathead on the sand flats and a few queen fish and schoolie mackerel in the channel.
Kauri Creek continues to keep anglers happy with reports of good quality mangrove jack taken on shallow diving lures.
RMG 50mm Scorpion lures in the fire fin colour have had great success on the jack.
Tinnanbar Ledge is still producing a mixed bag of quality reef fish, including black spot tusk fish, grassy sweetlip and blackall. And the mud crabs are still on the move in Poona Creek.
There are plenty of bull sharks in the sandy strait at the moment, chasing whiting up on the flats, and the Diamonds have been fishing well with good quality summer whiting, flathead and gar with a few threadfin salmon landed at German Creek.
The Mary River continues to be one of the more popular locations with large threadfin salmon caught in numbers with Dundathu Straight being the favored area for them at the moment.
Eli Creek and Toogoom have been producing some good quality flathead and summer whiting and the Burrum River continues to impress, with large mangrove jack, threadfin salmon and grunter.
