Who keeps tab on waiting list?
EXACTLY how the health service keeps tabs on hospital waiting lists was raised by Maryborough MP Chris Foley in parliament yesterday.
“What are the procedures for reminding patients and checking they still require their appointments?” he asked health minister Paul Lucas.
Mr Foley’s question is a direct upshot from information garnered at the table of the Community Health Task Force he chairs.
He told the Chronicle yesterday that the doctor and nurse representatives on the new task force had revealed to him that it was not unusual for patients to be scrubbed from waiting lists for failing to turn up.
“For everyone that does not attend, there is a whole row of people ready and willing to go.”
He fears some patients are forking out their life savings for private care “rather than die on the waiting list”.
“I want to know if someone can be appointed to check that patients are going to turn up.”
He also asked the minister for more information about the person who prioritises patients on the waiting list.
