WIDE Bay Buccaneers have nominated a home ground for its inaugural Football Queensland Premier League season.
Football Wide Bay was included as one of 16 clubs in the new competition. Wide Bay's representation came at the last minute, as Across The Waves Football Club declined a licence.
Wide Bay's QPL team adopted the "Buccaneers" moniker three weeks later, where plans for two training hubs - one in Bundaberg and the other in Maryborough - was discussed.
Now, the newly-named Football Queensland Wide Bay has revealed it intends to make Bundaberg's Martens Oval its home base.
A FQWB document said Bundaberg was considered the most suitable home for the Buccaneers based on two essential factors:
The facilities and fields met the criteria for QPL fixtures,
Bundaberg member clubs have consistently contributed to the culture of football and been at the forefront of player, coaching and refereeing development within the region.
There will be an opportunity for other Wide Bay grounds, such as Maryborough's Federation Park Field, to host QPL fixtures throughout the season.
FQWB will review its home ground nomination at the end of the inaugural season.
