Wide Bay pre-selection up in the air after Truss' retirement
THE LNP is yet to determine when they will hold pre-selection to contest the seat of Wide Bay, following Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss's announcement of his retirement.
Mr Truss told parliament yesterday he would be stepping down as federal leader of the Nationals immediately and he would not be contesting his Wide Bay seat at this year's federal election.
LNP state director Lincoln Folo said it was too early to have finalised when pre-selection for the seat will be held.
"The party will be calling for nominations in due course," he said.
"We expect to have a strongly contested field."
The Chronicle understands, when pre-selection was called late last year, Mr Truss was the only candidate to put his hand up for the nomination.
