Wide Bay reps enjoy mixed start to champs
THREE Queensland School Sport championships are in full swing across the state and Wide Bay has so far only enjoyed mixed results.
Fraser Coast athletes are competing at the 19yrs Football championships in Townsville, 19yrs Girls Hockey in Colmslie, Brisbane, and the 15yrs Boys AFL in Gaythorne.
Three players from Doon Villa's Wide Bay League are playing at the Townsville championships, as Aiden Ward, Sam Porter and Josh Barsby work to try to deliver a state title.
The boys enjoyed a torrid first day as they drew Northern 2-all and lost 3-0 to Met West, and things didn't get any easier yesterday.
As injuries mounted they came up against reigning champions Met East, losing 3-1 despite a quality performance, then lost 5-0 to Met North.
The girls fared slightly better. They lost 3-0 to Met West but beat Darling Downs 2-0 on the first day, then lost 3-1 to South Coast and 1-0 to Met North.
All competitions will end on Sunday.
