Council to take control of Wide Bay Water, risking jobs

THE Wide Bay Water experiment is over.

Fraser Coast Regional Council has voted to bring the water and sewerage utility back under its control.

Thirty WBB jobs are now at risk as the administrators begin to plan the transition.

The final vote was 9-1 in favour of stripping WBB of its corporate status and transforming it into a commercial business unit of council.

Councillor George Seymour was the lone dissenting voice.

"I don't recall anybody here saying they wanted to contribute to local unemployment," he said.
