Wildlife sanctuary curator in surgery after emu attack
AN EMU has attacked Fraser Coast Wildlife Sanctuary curator Ray Revill when he was feeding the animal on Monday afternoon, leaving him with a deep scratch to his left arm.
Jayden Apelt, a volunteer at the sanctuary, said the emu had used one of its legs to lash out at Mr Revill while it was being fed.
"I'm not sure exactly what happened," Mr Apelt said.
Mr Revill was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital where it is believed surgery will be carried out to repair the wound.
Mr Apelt said it was all part of working with animals.
"That's the risk you've got to take," he said.
Mr Apelt said the emu had suffered no ill-effects from the incident.
"The emu came out on the top end," Mr Apelt said.
