Winter deluge: 200mm of rain forecast for Coast

STORM chasers say the Sunshine Coast could be hit by a 200mm deluge set to sweep the east coast from Sydney, with authorities putting works on hold ahead of the predicted rain.

Road resealing around a major Coast shopping centre set to start on Sunday has been delayed a week by the Sunshine Coast Council due to the forecast.

The new schedule for the Chancellor Village Shopping Centre works at Sippy Downs remain weather dependant, but have been pushed back from June 11 to June 18.

North Coast Storm Chasers have forecast the Sunshine Coast could cop up to 200mm or more, as an upper-level New South Wales low interacts with a trough over north-east New South Wales.

Another low pressure system has been tipped to form off the south-east Queensland coastline on Monday.

"Now how much rainfall is expected will be ranging from 50 - 200mm with most of the coast from about Sydney all the way to the Sunshine Coast seeing 200mm if not more," the forecast states.

"If this low was to form we could very much see up to 300mm of rainfall for some locations, please note that these totals are for the next week however mostly falling between 3 days."

The low pressure system off the south-east Queensland coastline is set to deliver rainfall and strong winds into early next week.

Weatherzone's 7-day forecast for Maroochydore has a 90% chance of rain until Wednesday, while the Bureau of Meteorology is tipping winds to whip up from Monday.

Winds are expected to hit up to 50km/h on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Bureau has also tipped rain to hit the region, with the Coast up to 35mm Sunday, 15mm Monday and up to 30mm Tuesday as the wet, chilly conditions take hold.
