Woman dies in Fraser Island tag-along rollover

UPDATE 5:10PM: Police are still at the scene of a traffic crash on Fraser Island which killed one woman and injured another seven people.

A young woman was pronounced dead at the scene and five other passengers were transported to Gympie Hospital with varying injuries.  

The driver and another passenger have been airlifted to the Hervey Bay Hospital with head injuries.

Initial investigations suggest about 2pm a vehicle travelling south towards Hook Point, on the inland route, rolled while carrying eight passengers.

EARLIER: ONE person is dead and four others are injured following a four-wheel-drive rollover on Fraser Island.

A police spokesman said the group was on a tag-along tour and travelling back to the Inskip barge when tragedy struck about 2pm. 

A young woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The condition of the other passengers is not known.

Officers from the Wide Bay Forensic Crash Unit are on their way to the island.
