Woman raped on beach at Torquay

DETECTIVES are investigating the rape of a 33-year-old woman at Torquay Beach on Saturday.

The woman had been drinking with friends when she walked onto the beach alone about 2.30am.

After being attacked by an unknown male the woman called for help and was taken to the Hervey Bay Hospital.

Detective Sergeant Mick Polit said police were not yet willing to disclose the woman's injuries but said she was "heavily traumatised" and continued to be traumatised three days after the event.

He said police were reviewing CCTV footage from a number of Esplanade businesses and were appealing for anyone who saw a man walk onto the beach between 2.30am and 5am to come forward.
