Gang sex assault by five men on woman walking past park

POLICE are appealing for information following the sexual of assault of a woman by a group of five men in Lismore in the early hours of this morning.

Police said it was about 1:25am when a 30-year-old woman left a hotel on Woodlark Street and started walking home past Gloria Mortimer Oval near Dawson Street.

She was then confronted by five males, described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Island appearance, near the oval's amenities block.

She was detained against her will before being sexually assaulted by the group, police said.

She returned home and informed relatives about the incident before being taken to Lismore Base Hospital where she continues to receive medical treatment, police said.

Police from Richmond Local Area Command were then contacted and went to the oval where they established a crime scene which was examined by specialist forensic officers.

Detectives are continuing investigations into the incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

They are looking for the five males who have only been described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance.
