Woman sexually assaulted at Howard train station
A WOMAN was sexually assaulted while waiting for a train at Howard station on Sunday night, police have revealed.
Detectives, uniformed police and forensic officers converged at the station platform on Monday after a large pool of blood was found.
The injured woman, 40, was spotted by staff on the train and taken to hospital in Gympie.
Maryborough police Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Mick Polit said the woman had been dropped at the station about 5pm on Sunday.
"She was dropped there by family to wait for the train which she was aware wasn't coming until the following day," he said.
The woman, from New South Wales, got on the train at 6am and police believe the attack occurred between 5pm and 9pm.
Snr Sgt Police said the woman did not know her attackers and believed there may have been two people involved.
Forensic investigators have spent the last 24 hours gathering evidence at the train station which will have to be tested.
"We have seized a lot of CCTV from businesses in Howard," he said.
Snr Sgt Polit said police are still speaking with the woman to gain further details about the attack.
