Catholic women’s league turns 60

THE Catholic Women’s League of Maryborough will celebrate 60 years on March 7.

“We will have a special blessing for them at our Sunday Mass,” Maryborough parish priest Father Paul Kelly said yesterday.

“Then I’m looking forward to joining the CWL ladies and their guests for a special luncheon on March 9 to celebrate this wonderful milestone.”

In 1950 Monsignor Jordan asked Maryborough’s Mrs McDonald to gather a group of ladies and form a social and charitable club to help the parish.

She met with 16 ladies on February 20, 1950, and they decided to call a general meeting on March 7. The sick, elderly and St. Vincent de Paul were decided as top priorities.
