Woolies goes all out to help Coast family

WHEN it comes to supporting a family with a young boy on life-support after being hit by a truck, it appears all big businesses are not equal.

One business went out of its way to help Darren Smart, the father organising community events for Blake Byrne.

So which business stuck its hand up to make a difference in the life of a family struggling through an extremely difficult time? It was the fresh food people at Woolworths.

"Woolworths just said 'what do you want' and you can't help compare (to those that didn't)," Mr Smart said.

"Woolworths donated all the sausages, onions and sauces for the barbecue fundraiser.

"The manager there was fantastic and that's what big corporates should be about. He was such a humble bloke too and didn't want any thanks."

Chemart pharmacy also put together a $500 basket for the fundraising effort.

"It shows the beautiful heart of some of the businesses we have," Mr Smart said.

Fundraising events for Blake will continue as it could be several months before he is out of the woods. Donations can be sent toLight a Candle for Blake:
