Work on $300,000 Esplanade car park to begin this week

A $300,000 project to build an asphalt car park in front of Apex Park on the Hervey Bay Esplanade will begin this week.

The project will be undertaken by local company Grand Civil and it includes forming the car park, footpaths, traffic islands, landscaping and kerb and channel.

There is also parking bays for vendors and five-minute carparks for customers using the vendors.

Access to Apex Park will be maintained at all times.

"The shaded park is popular with parents of young children," councillor Stuart Taylor said.

"There have been many calls from the community to create functional parking with safe access across the Esplanade.

"This project will improve visitation to the park and the overall look and feel of the Esplanade."

Traffic flow along the Esplanade may be restricted at times during the project.
