Protest group ties yellow ribbons around Pt Vernon trees

A SECOND protest against the Fraser Coast Regional Council's decision to remove five mature gums and saplings from the Pt Vernon foreshore has been staged.

Mayoral candidate Janean Dean met with four others at the "Eagle's Nest" along Charlton Esplanade yesterday to tie yellow ribbons around the trees marked for removal.

The trees will be removed by the council as part of a road-widening project marked to begin in the New Year.

Ms Dean said the yellow ribbons were a symbol of tree protection.
