Tennis fun day in Maryborough

TENNIS: Maryborough tennis coach Bruce Rayner already knows it will be fun – now he is hoping for a bit of sun.

Rayner will be hosting a fun day at the Maryborough tennis courts on Saturday.

The day is free and events will start at 2.30pm and finish at 5pm.

Events will include testing service speeds with a speed gun. Contestants can compare their top speeds with those of top tennis player and super server Andy Roddick and a novelty prize will be given away for the fastest serve of the day.

Lucky player prizes will also be handed out throughout the afternoon.

“We’ve just got to get the right weather for it,” Rayner said.

Players can also use jumbo tennis racquets or peewee tennis racquets, all in the name of fun, or compete in a speed tennis competition.

Competitors play to a speed limit and whoever is winning when the time is up wins the match.

A ball machine will also be available for use on the day, allowing players to practise their shots.

The day will finish up with a free barbecue at 4.30pm.

Those who want to get involved with the game can also find out more about signing up from Rayner or other committee members on the day.

“It should be a really good day,” Rayner said.
