Young power paddlers

FIVE big days of racing are coming up for Fraser Coast junior outrigger squad members.

The youngsters will compete in two separate events on the Sunshine Coast, including the Australian Junior OC1, OC2 and V1 Outrigger Marathon Titles and the Trans-Tasman Gubbi Gubbi Waka Ama Championship.

The Junior Fraser Coast Outriggers have been raising money for the past six months to be able to compete in the events, in which they will do battle with other competitors from throughout Australia and New Zealand.

The Australian Junior OC1, OC2 and V1 Outrigger Marathon Titles will be held tomorrow and Friday and will see the junior competitors complete races which vary in length from two kilometres to 12km depending on their ages.

Then on Saturday the Trans Tasman Gubbi Gubbi Waka Ama Championship will kick off.

This is an international event which sees juniors compete over three days at Lake Kawana.

The races include sprints over 250m or 500m depending on the age groups of those racing.

The junior paddlers of the Fraser Coast have been training hard and they are quietly confident of success.
