YOUR SAY: Fraser Coast shares Anzac stories and photos

ANZAC day is a time to respect those who suffered the privations and hardship of war in order to protect our way of life, to remember the victims of conflict and the families they left behind and to be grateful for the legacy their sacrifice bestowed upon us.

This is a message from one of our reader's Greg Woodward who's grandfather's eldest brother, John Victor Black signed up from the teachers college in Brisbane on April 22, 1915.

"Official records from the national archives show his enlistment as being April 25, the day our forces first landed at Gallipoli Cove," Mr Woodward said.

"The local connection with the Fraser coast was that his mother, Annie, was the head teacher at the Sunbury School on Alice Street when she was informed, firstly that her son was MIA before notification that he had been KIA at the second charge at Pozieres in August 1916." he said.

"Lest we forget."

"My father flew fighters in the south west Pacific in WW2, and is here pictured (below) watching an F4U-1D Corsair taxi out at a Warbirds over Wanaka airshow some years back. Note the little wave to the pilot..."

"I have a cousin who is still serving," she said.
