YOUR STORY: Ladies in their 60s to represent Australia

Hervey Bay should be proud of all their early morning starters from people walking along the beach to road cyclists and joggers.

Rewarded by spectacular sunrises and wildlife sightings, we Fraser Coast Golden Women's Outrigger team have rolled our canoe to the water by 6am, three mornings a week for the past seven months, training long and hard.

We competed in the national titles in early February on Kawana's water sports lake, where we qualified to represent Australia in the Golden Masters Women 60 to 70 years division at the Va'a World Sprint Championships 2016.

The championships are on next month between May 5 to 15.

Other Fraser Coast outriggers have qualified in their respective divisions too, which is really commendable for such a small club.

These Va'a World Outrigging Sprints will be the largest ever and one of the biggest events held on the Sunshine Coast.

About 35 countries were invited, with an expected 1,000 spectators.

There will be about 3,000 competitors in divisions ranging from 16 yrs to over 70.

The championships also have a division for adaptive paddlers.

Not bad for six women aged in their 60s, who are proudly dedicated to a healthy lifestyle and top fitness and who are thrilled to be wearing the green and gold.
