Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Housing Michael Sukkar says whistleblower protection is already ‘built into the system’.
Mr Sukkar says in reality, Australia's democracy, government and public service cannot function unless confidential information is ‘treated that way’.
The Assistant Treasurer believes commentary in the media over the past week has been ‘exaggerated’, and depicts the government as ‘tyrannical’.
Mr Sukkar believes Australia has a ‘very open and free press’, but wouldn’t be opposed to looking into ‘how we could improve it’.
